Microforest
PROJECT: Microforest is a long-term artistic engagement with Blakestown Community College, commissioned by Fingal County Council and Super Projects and realised by artist Gareth Kennedy. A microforest was planted at the school and developed over time into a living hedge school, a space where artists can use nature as a starting point to engage with students around themes of ecology, sustainability and the natural environment.
CLIENT: Fingal County Council / Superprojects
What they needed
Gareth and Super Projects needed a filmmaker who could commit to the project for the long haul, returning again and again over the years to document the forest and the community growing around it, capturing the full arc from installation to fruition.
What we did
We documented Microforest over five years, following the project from the initial planting all the way through to the forest coming into its own. Watching something grow and change over that length of time, and seeing the relationship between the students and the space deepen with each visit, was a genuinely special experience. One of those projects that reminds you why this work matters.
