Muscle
PROJECT: Muscle: A Question of Power is an immersive experience created by Anna Furse, installed at Crawford Art Gallery in Cork. Visitors are taken on an audio-guided journey through the gallery's historic collection of Canova Casts, prompted to experience these classical forms not only visually but viscerally and imaginatively. The experience culminates in a short film featuring women who work professionally with their muscularity, including a dancer, a para-athlete, a soldier, a pole-dancer, a bodybuilder and a fashion model. The piece engages with contemporary and historic obsessions with beauty, perfection, strength and power, and the ongoing question of the body in today's gender discourse.
CLIENT: Anna Furse
What they needed
Anna Furse needed a filmmaker to create the centrepiece film for the installation, a work that could hold its own as the culmination of the full immersive experience and give voice to a group of women whose relationships with their own bodies challenge and complicate our assumptions about strength and femininity.
What we did
Our own Kilian Waters made the film women talking: muscle, a question of power. Bringing together six women who work professionally with their muscularity, the film captures their voices and stories to form the closing chapter of the full installation experience.
