Once Upon A Sound
PROJECT: Once Upon a Sound at THE HIDE SCULPTURE’ sees acclaimed broadcaster Donal Dineen take us on a deep exploration of music in the company of some of the finest music makers in the land. Together they will tell the story of their sound, the songs, the instruments and their connection to them. In each series they will perform at THE HIDE SCULPTURE, a sculpture by artist Garrett Phelan that invites contemplation and deep listening. It is located along the Rogerstown Estuary, North County Dublin and home to a diverse population of resident and migrating birds that have chosen this place as their home.

What they needed
Once Upon a Sound wanted to create a series of videos with Donal Dineen, capturing intimate conversations with artists alongside live musical performances. They needed content that was engaging, authentic, and showcased both the personalities and the talent of the musicians.
What we did
We directed a series of interviews and performances with Donal Dineen, filming in the Hide sculpture, a tiny, birdwatcher-style space. Shooting there was challenging due to the size, but it made the process incredibly fun and unique. It was all completely unrehearsed, so we just had to find our shots on the fly without interrupting the flow of the conversation, which is something we love to do and do often. The result was a set of vibrant, immersive videos that brought each artist’s story and music to life. The series featured Anna Mieke, Niwel Tsumbu, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Cormac Begley, and Louise Mulcahy. We loved every moment — seeing the artists perform and capturing those brilliant sessions was an unforgettable experience.
